الحمد لله ربّ العالمين و
الحمد لله الذی لا مُضادّ له في مُلكه و لا مُنازِعَ لَهُ في أمره. الحمدالله الذی
لا شريك لَهُ في خلقه ولا شبيه لَهُ في عَظَمَتِه جزء من دعاء الإفتتاح وصلّی
الله علی سيدّنا ونبيّنا محمّد صلّی الله عليه وعلی آله الطاهرين واصحابه
عبادالله ! أُوصيكم و
نفسي بتقوی الله و اتّباع امره و نهیه.
Sixth Virtue: Easiness of facing the hardships
نَزَلَتْ أَنْفُسُهُمْ مِنْهُمْ فِي الْبَلاَءِ كَالَّتِي نَزَلَتْ فِي
They are in a
state of hardship and difficulty as if they are in comfort and convenience.
Pious people are not
afraid of confronting with difficulties and hardships, but they also want these
difficulties and welcome them. For them facing with difficulties and difficult
issues is like dealing with easy things and they consider it pleasant. In the sermon of
Kumayl, Amir al-Mu minīn expresses the qualities of the chosen men’s of God:
وَاسْتَلاَنُوا مَا اسْتَوْعَرَهُ الْمُتْرَفُونَ
وَأَنِسُوا بِمَا اسْتَوْحَشَ مِنْهُ الْجَاهِلُونَ نهج البلاغه، حکمت144
What is hard for weak people will be easy for
them and what makes ignorant people afraid, is intimate for them.
The secret of the difficulty and the ease of
The difficulty and the
simplicity of affairs are relative, and differ from one another to another, as
they differ from one another s mental states. Sometimes an action is difficult
for a person, and it s easy for another, or hard for one person today, and it s
easy for the same person tomorrow. Capacity and ability of different people are
different. And according to Amir al-Mu minin as :
إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْقُلُوبَ أَوْعِيَةٌ فَخَيْرُهَا
The hearts of people are
like plates, and the best of them are their most capable ones.
As the capacity of one
person varies in different situations. And also again in the words of Imam Ali
كُلُّ وِعَاءٍ يَضِيقُ بِمَا جُعِلَ فِيهِ الْأَ وِعَاءَ
الْعِلْمِ، فَإِنَّهُ يَتَّسِعُ بِهِ
Each plate will lose its
capacity by placing something in it, except for the plate in which science is
placed, which will increase its capacity.
The difference in the
spirit of a person in his own state of being and seeing himself, with his
self-abandonment and free of selfishness, will make this difference.
When a person gets free
from his self and reach to god’s blessing, he will have such a power that any
hard and difficult affair would be easy for him. When human gets connected God
and the main source of the power, then the affairs that are hard or easy, doesn’t
have a difference for him, as there is no such a difference for God.
قال النبي صلى الله عليه
و آله و سلم: إن الله قال: ما تقرب إلي عبدي بشيء أحب إلي مما افترضت عليه، وما
يزال عبدي يتقرب إلي بالنوافل حتى أحبه، فإذا أحببته كنت سمعه الذي يسمع به، وبصره
الذي يبصر به، ويده التي يبطش بها، ورجله التي يمشي بها بخاری: رقم6502
My servant can only get close to me with doing the
obligatory actions, my servant will always approach me with the prayers. Then I
will be his ears, so he will hear with them. I will be his eyes, so he will see
with them. I will be his hand, so he will work with them, and I will be his
feet, so he will walk with them.
إِلَهِی هَبْ لِی کَمَالَ الِانْقِطَاعِ إِلَیْکَ وَ أَنِرْ
أَبْصَارَ قُلُوبِنَا بِضِیَاءِ نَظَرِهَا إِلَیْکَ، حَتَّى تَخِرَقَ أَبْصَارُ
الْقُلُوبِ حُجُبَ النُّورِ، فَتَصِلَ إِلَى مَعْدِنِ الْعَظَمَةِ
God, give me the complete cessation, and show me the
light of your mercy, so I could see you and my eyes could see the greatness of
When someone reaches this position and turns to a men of
god, then, according to the Holy Qur an, it will no longer be hardship or
difficulty for him.
إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ
وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
Unquestionably, God’s friends have nothing to
fear, nor shall they grieve.
Man naturally stretches towards bad things, and goodness
is bad for him. The Holy Quran says:
حُبُّ الشَّهَوَاتِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَالْبَنِينَ وَالْقَنَاطِيرِ الْمُقَنْطَرَةِ
مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ وَالْخَيْلِ الْمُسَوَّمَةِ وَالْأَنْعَامِ
وَالْحَرْثِ ﴿آل عمران:۱۴﴾
Adorned for the people is the love of desires,
such as women, and children, and piles upon piles of gold and silver, and
branded horses, and livestock, and fields.
And ethics scholars find the outcome of moral education
as doing difficult affairs easily. And the people of virtue are the ones who,
by refraining from morality or through spiritual processes, have reached a
degree where hard and easy affairs are indifferent to them.
