Friday Prayer

Praise is to God with all his praises, for all his blessings. . . Praise is to God, the owner of the property, the operator of the orbit, the bender of the wind, the glory of the morning, the religion of the beliefs, lord of the worlds; praise is to God for his dream after his knowledge and thank God for forgiveness after his power, and praise be to God for his long patience in his wrath and he is capable to do what he wills

And we bear witness that there is no god but God alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is his servant and messenger, he sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, that he might proclaim it over all religion, even if the polytheists hated it.

The Kaaba is a monument to Ibrahim Khalil, the house of God and the house of the people

The holy Qur’an announces the location of the Kaaba for Ibrahim Khalil and says:

When We settled for Abraham the site of the House [saying], Do not ascribe any partners to Me, and purify My House for those who circle around it, and those who stand [in it for prayer], and those who bow and prostrate themselves. (Haj: 26)

The appearance of this verse is that God showed Ibrahim the location of the Kaaba, so that he could build the Kaaba. Another verse has stated that:

As Abraham raised the foundations of the House with Ishmael, [they prayed]: ‘Our Lord, accept it from us! Indeed You are the All-hearing, the All-knowing. (Baghare: 127)

However, from the appearance of the verse Our Lord! I have settled part of my descendants in a barren valley, by Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may maintain the prayer. So make the hearts of a part of the people fond of them, and provide them with fruits, so that they may give thanks. (Ibrahim :37) it is known that the House of Kaaba existed in that land before the time Ibrahim Khalil and his wife and child moved to Mecca. He made Hagar and Ismael live next to the Masjid al-Haram. Therefore, Ibrahim settled his family on that advised-location and started to fix and repair Kaaba and clean the Masjid al-Haram and prepare it for attendance of the worshipers, by the command of God.

God repeatedly instructed Ibrahim and Ismael to clean and prepare the house of the Kaaba for the worshipers and said:

And [remember] when We made the House a place of reward for mankind and a sanctuary, [declaring], ‘Take the venue of prayer from Abraham’s Station.’ We charged Abraham and Ishmael [with its upkeep, saying], ‘Purify My House for those who go around it, [for] those who make it a retreat and [for] those who bow and prostrate.’ (Baghare: 125)

The contemplative interpretation that the Qur’an uses of the Kaaba is very beautiful. The holy Qur’an considers the Kaaba and the Masjid al-Haram as the first house built for the people:

Indeed the first house to be set up for mankind is the one at Bakkah, blessed and a guidance for all nations. (Al-omran: 96)

A place that brings security and safety to all people: In it are manifest signs [and] Abraham’s Station, and whoever enters it shall be secure. (Al-omran: 97)

Ibrahim Khalil prays to God for the Kaaba, the land of Mecca and those who will live in it. In response to Ibrahim’s prayer, while accepting his request, God points to the enjoyment of divine blessings by all, even the unbelievers, and says:

And when Abraham said, ‘My Lord, make this a secure town, and provide its people with fruits—such of them as have faith in Allah and the Last Day,’ He said, ‘As for him who is faithless, I will provide for him [too] for a short time, then I will shove him toward the punishment of the Fire and it is an evil destination.’ (Baghare: 126)

Hajj was assigned to Ibrahim

Ibrahim Khalil, in addition to the prayers and supplications that he asked from God for his family, who left them in Mecca, also asked God to learn the rituals of Hajj and said:

‘Our Lord, make us submissive to You, and [raise] from our progeny a nation submissive to You, and show us our rites [of worship], and turn to us clemently. Indeed You are the All-clement, the All-merciful.’ (Baghare: 128)

It is at this time that the rituals of Hajj are taught to Ibrahim Khalil. Then, he dealt with God to spread Hajj among other nations; he promised that, until the end of the world, all human beings would practice this obligatory ritual and obey the rules of the almighty God. Say, ‘Whoever is an enemy of Gabriel [should know that] it is he who has brought it down on your heart with the will of Allah, confirming what has been [revealed] before it and as a guidance and good news for the faithful.’ (Al-omran: 97)

Perhaps this was the great eternal responsibility for the prophet Ibrahim; he came out of the great divine test of “sacrificing his son” with a great pride. The holy Qur’an has announced the commands of God as the last mission of Ibrahim, and has said that:

And proclaim the Hajj to all the people: they will come to you on foot and on lean camels, coming from distant places, that they may witness the benefits for them, and mention Allah’s Name during the known days over the livestock He has provided them. So eat thereof and feed the destitute and the needy. Then let them do away with their untidiness, fulfill their vows, and circle around the Ancient House. (Haj: 27-29)

Finally, God expressed His satisfaction with Ibrahim and considered the secret of his happiness to be “mere submission to the divine commandments”:

And who will [ever] forsake Abraham’s creed except one who debases himself? We certainly chose him in the [present] world, and in the Hereafter he will indeed be among the Righteous. When his Lord said to him, ‘Submit,’ he said, ‘I submit to the Lord of all the worlds.’ (Baghare: 130-131)
