The eighteenth sign of the righteous:

Whenever his concupiscence rebels in doing things it does not like, he will deprive it of what it likes.

If the human concupiscence does not obey him in performing acts of worship and good deeds, and instead tends to harm human, he does not obey the will of the concupiscence and does not obey it, but forces it against its will, and the result is That the pious human engages in jihad with his concupiscence because he knows that concupiscence is his enemy.

Jihad with the concupiscence

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) sent an army for jihad, when they returned, he said to them:

Congratulations to the people who ended the smaller jihad and (now) the bigger jihad remains. They said: O Messenger of God! What is the greater jihad? Prophet said: Jihad with the soul (concupiscence).

Compromise and submission to the real enemy is one of the weaknesses that lead man to destruction. The only way is to fight and confront it. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

Your worst enemy is the concupiscence.

The human concupiscence is like a rebellious horse that, if its owner does not control it, will throw him into the valley of perdition. The more you get along with it, the more wilder it becomes and does not make it less. Amir al-mu’minin Ali (as) says:

Do not release your concupiscnece, because this release will lead you to the paths of the oppressors.

The pious people have fought with their concupiscence and whenever they witness its rebellions, they try to tame it and in this regard, they deprive it of its desires. This discipline of the concupiscence is in fact one of the stages of “relationship” which means to be ready and always watch over the attacks of the devil and the desires of the rebellious concupiscence. In the Holy Qur’an, God Almighty commands for the relationship and says:

O you who believe! Be patient, and advocate patience, and be united, and revere God, so that you may thrive.

In order to realize the relationship, man must evaluate his concupiscence before the divine angels deal with his account and book of deeds on the Day of Resurrection. As Imam Sadigh (as) says:

Count your deeds before they are accounted (in the divine court).

1.placing conditions

The human wisdom and concupiscence are like two partners who enter into a deal and first state their terms and conditions. The concupiscence is like a partner who works for wisdom. In fact, the wisdom in the path of the Hereafter is like a merchant whose profit in his hereafter business is only self-cultivation. God Almighty says:

Successful is he who purifies it. Failing is he who corrupts it.

Every moment of human life is a precious gem that has no replacement and with which one can get the endless treasures of knowledge, love and pleasure of God, so the end of these opportunities while they are Unused or used in the path of destruction and misguidance, it is a huge loss that can no longer be compensated. Therefore, every day after the morning prayer, a person deserves to be alone for an hour to place some conditions for his concupiscence. And say to himself: I have nothing except this short life, and if I lose it, I will lose my only  capital. This is a new day that God has given me respite, and this is a blessing that has come to me from Him. If I were dead, I would now desperately ask God to send me back even for a day to do righteous deeds. So oh breath! Suppose you are dead and God has given you respite and you are back, so avoid wasting this day.

2-taking care

After placing conditions, it is time to take care of your soul. Nafs Amara  (the concupiscence) constantly commands disobedience to God, and if its control is out of man’s control, it will kill his owner. The concupiscence is generally not out of three states:

a)it is engaged in obedience and worship, in which case men should be careful not to corrupt that act of worship with a ungodly intention

b)Or he has a tendency to sin and disobedience, in which case it should be immediately stopped from committing sin by remembering God and that God is the witness and overseer of all human actions, and if it is infected with sin, it should be forced to repent immediately and compensated for the sin

c) Or it engages in permissible acts such as eating or sleeping, which in this case must also be performed by performing rituals such as starting with the name of God and… being careful that performing permissible acts does not neglect the remembrance of God and doesn’t be greed of the soul for committing sin.

After condition and taking care, it is time to evaluate, and at the end of the day, an hour should be set aside for the evaluation of the book of the concupiscence, which God Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an:

O you who believe! Fear God, and let every soul consider what it has forwarded for the morrow, and fear God. God is Aware of what you do.

Imam Sadegh (as) says about the necessity of evaluation the soul:

He  is not one of us who does not evaluate his concupiscence every day, so if he does a good deed, he should ask God a lot and give him thanks, and if he does an evil deed, he should ask for forgiveness from God and repent to God.
