Fourth
virtue: ignoring sins

They do
what God has forbidden to them.

Avoiding
sins and doing what is forbidden by God is considered the most obvious measure
of virtue. The
first stage of piety, which according to the Holy Qur an is to keep away from
the haram and fulfill divine obligations.

So
be conscious of God as much as you can

The higher
the levels of human dignity increase, the more that they should avoid, which
they have said:

The good
deeds of good men are considered to be abominable for the people
of God.

Because a
person who is at the high level of virtue, naturally finds a place of influence
among his or her community and also in society, and others take his way as a
pattern for their life, and set his actions as examples. Such a person should
avoid many things that are lawful halal to others.

On the
other hand, as much as a person goes up in the levels of virtue and
piety, he considers many of the affairs that are Mobah as haram for himself,
because his heart does not neglected God s remembrance, and the mystic person
seek constant attention to Allah. What enters to the heart through the eyes and
ears makes life dependent on matter.

Human
thoughts are rooted in his observation. What human sees influences in his soul
and heart and carries his thought and attention, and such a human being loses
the opportunity and the ability to fly in spirituality and will not have a way
to heaven.

In the Holy
Qur an, Allah, in the form of an example, compares two kinds of human beings:

God
cites the example of a man shared by partners at odds, and a man belonging
exclusively to one man. Are they equal in status? Praise be to God, but most of
them do not know.

A person who
does not care about the things that being imported to his heart and not
protecting his eyes and ears is like a person whose sight and ears divert him
to any different aspect of their own, and he will not have the senses that
bring him to the perfection.

A person
who is in the search of god and wants to reach the peak of perfection and
spirituality, and get close to God, must make himself free from all these
concerns and non-divine thoughts, and also give all of his attention to God.

The term
“closing eyes” has been used in two verses of the Holy Quran, both of
which refer to the relationship between men and women in society. The first
verse is addressed to Muslim men, and the second verse addressed to Muslim women:

Tell the
believing men to restrain their looks, and to guard their privates. That is
purer for them. God is cognizant of what they do.

And tell
the believing women to restrain their looks, and to guard their privates, and
not display their beauty except what is apparent thereof, and to draw their
coverings over their breasts, and not expose their beauty except to their
husbands, their fathers, their husbands fathers, their sons, their husbands
sons, their brothers, their brothers sons, their sisters sons, their women,
what their right hands possess, their male attendants who have no sexual
desires, or children who are not yet aware of the nakedness of women. And they
should not strike their feet to draw attention to their hidden beauty. And
repent to God, all of you believers, so that you may succeed.

Some Points
that should be noted about these two verses:

1.
In these verses, it first begins with men,
and addresses them to preserve their eye from haram, and decree to maintain
chastity, then he addresses the women and orders them to preserve the eyes and
chastity, and clothe themselves with the appropriate cover.

This precedence has a special wisdom. In this
way, the wisdom of divine command signifies that the lack of proper coverage by
women is due to the lack of clarity of the eyes of the men.  As long as a men doesn’t seek for haram beauty
of a women and doesn’t encourage other women to not to regard covering with his
eye, the women in society doesn’t take an action to introduce her beauty. This case could be well seen in the issue of women s dressing
and makeup in Western industrial societies, since men does not ask for a
women’s beauty in the society, women also dont see the need of makeup and
doesn’t make up herself in the society.

2.
It is understood from the interpretation
of “ذلك أزكي لهم” that observance
of this command leads to greater purity for human beings, and God observes the
action of human beings.

The subject of this verse, which is the
relationship between men and women, is not something a person wants to
experience it, and after that looks at the horrendous results of it and then
make a decision about it. In such a case, the
method of experiencing causing irreparable maladaptation and because of that it
should not be done, and this is the same mistake that thinkers of recent
centuries committed in human societies. The Qur an says that God, who is the
creator of the human being and who knows him, gives such an order in
controlling the relations between men and women, encourages the man and woman
to observe the purity of eyes, chastity, and observance of the necessary
coverage in the community. The exceptions stated in this verse show that the
observance of divine orders will not cause hardship in the social relations of
individuals. Muslim men and women can have a acceptable and complete social
life by following these instructions, and also this method will be more effective
for the clarity of the human community when we do the instructions.
